Mineral Point - Catherine “Kay” Palzkill age 88, of Mineral Point, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, May 10, 2010, surrounded by her family. She was born on January 26, 1922 in El Paso, Texas to Frank and Marie (Larkin) Ignaszewski. She graduated from Cheyenne Wyoming High School in 1940. Being from a military family, Kay traveled to many places including the Philippines from which she was evacuated to the United States at the start of W.W. II. She and her younger sister ended up living with aunts in Madison. There she graduated from the Madison Business College and worked for an insurance company. Traveling to Mineral Point with her friend Lorraine Palzkill Goedeno, she met her future husband. Kay married Lawrence “Stub“ Palzkill on April 3, 1948 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Mineral Point, they enjoyed 55 years together. Kay worked outside the home for a short period, but mostly was a dedicated and loving farm wife, mother, and grandma. She also enjoyed gardening, sewing, cross stitch and ceramics. She was the happiest when she was able to cook for her family and friends. You never walked away from the table hungery.
Kay is loved and will be greatly missed by her children, Terri (Tom) Lieder, of Milton and Ted (Mary) Palzkill, of Mineral Point; missing their grandma are Craig (Lisa) Lieder, of Oshkosh, Chad (fiance, Melissa Rudolph) Lieder, of Janesville, Carri (Kyle) Wood, of LaCrosse, Jeff (Carrie) Palzkill, of Mineral Point, Andy (special friend, Ashley Kimball) Palzkill, of Darlington, Nikki (Matt) McGraw, of Edgerton and Molly (Jake) Sorensen, of Edgerton; great-grandchildren, Jarrett and Elle Lieder, Morgan and Collin Palzkill, Alayna Wood; two great-grand babies arriving this summer. She is also survived by her brother-in-law, Bill Dittman, of Las Vegas, NV and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Stub, and sister, Betty Jo Dittman, brother and sister-in-laws, sister, Teresita Palzkill, Cel (Matt) Larsen, Lenora (Greg) Buenzli, Leo (Grace) Palzkill, Bill (Bernice) Palzkill and Mary (Emerson) Davies.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, May 14, 2010 at 11:00 AM at St. Mary / St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Mineral Point. Fr. James Hinnen will officiate. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call on Friday from 9:00 am until time of service at the church.
