McDonald, Lucy F.
March 9, 1915 - March 6, 2010

Spring Green / Dodgeville - Lucy Frances (Wiest) McDonald, age 94, passed away peacefully with her loving family by her side, on Saturday, March 6, 2010 at the Greenway Manor in Spring Green, WI. She was born on March 9, 1915, to George and Margaret (Lins) Wiest, in Plain, WI and graduated from St. Luke’s Catholic High School in June, 1931 at age 16. Lucy married Francis (Fritz) McDonald of Pleasant Ridge, on Tuesday, August 17, 1937, in Plain. She lived with her husband on his family farm until moving into Dodgeville ten years later. There she worked at St. Joseph’s Hospital, the Huddle Restaurant and later at the Thym’s Supper Club. She was active in the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church Altar Society and enjoyed square dancing at Tower Hill State Park with many of her former Plain friends. After her husband’s death, Lucy relocated to Eau Claire, WI, and Excelsior, MN to be closer to her daughter and grandchildren. She continued working at the White House restaurant in Eau Claire and at the Deli Express food manufacturing in Chanhassen, MN until her retirement. She returned to the familiar Spring Green area to the Greenway Terrace Assisted Living in July, 1996.

Lucy is survived by her three children, Kenneth (Yolanda) McDonald, of Scottsdale, AZ, Fr. Perry McDonald O.F.M. Cap., of Milwaukee, WI, and Mary Ellen (Gerald) Sjoberg, of Duluth, MN; her six grandchildren, Mark McDonald of Colorado Springs, CO, Kevin McDonald of Georgetown, TX, Shelly (Ron) Wiseman of University Park, WA, Megan Sjoberg, Incline Village, NV, Sandra Waitt, of Cave Creek, AZ, and Peter Sjoberg (Linda) of Centennial, CO; twelve delightful great grandchildren from four to twenty five years of age, living from one coast to the next, north to south; her two sisters, Rita (Frank) Vielhuber of Evansville, WI and Sr. Mary Wiest O.P. of Racine, WI; her sister-in-law, Beatrice McDonald of Dodgeville, WI; as well as many other dear nieces, nephews and their spouses; former co-workers, friends and relatives.

Lucy was preceded in death by her parents, George and Margaret, her husband Francis, one son, Rodney McDonald and her daughter-in-law, Jacqueline McDonald; her brothers, Fr. Donald Wiest, O.F.M. Cap., Raymond Wiest and Cletus Wiest; her sisters-in-law, Blanche McDonald, Marcella Wiest, Dolores McDonald and Kay Wiest; and her brothers-in-law, Raymond McDonald, Louis McDonald, Joseph McDonald and Frank Vielhuber.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 9, 2010 at ST. JOSEPH’S CATHOLIC CHURCH in Dodgeville. Fr. Perry McDonald will officiate. Burial will be held in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Friends may call from 10:00 a.m. until time of Mass on Tuesday at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The House of Peace, 1702 W. Brown St., Milwaukee, WI, 53212, a social service agency of the Capuchin Franciscan Order.
