Mineral Point - Bernard “Ben” Lawinger, age 84, of Mineral Point passed away at the Mineral Point Care Center on Tuesday, February 23, 2010 from complications of a stroke he suffered on New Years Eve. Ben was born on April 7, 1925 the son of Henry and May (Zander) Lawinger. He grew up on the family farm and continued farming his entire life. He was a faithful lifetime member of St. Mary-St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Mineral Point. His favorite hobbies were watching and listening to the Brewers, Packers, and Badgers. He loved a challenging game of horseshoes, and a good game of cards.
Ben is survived by his sister, Ann Weier, of Mineral Point; his sister-in-law, Clara Ruth Lawinger, of Madison; 19 nieces and nephews; and numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, an infant sister, a brother, Donald Lawinger and a brother-in-law, Al Weier.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, February 27, 2010 at 10:30 am at Ss. MARY & PAUL CATHOLIC CHURCH in Mineral Point. Fr James Hinnen will officiate. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Friends may call on Friday, February 26, 2010 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. and on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. at the GORGEN FUNERAL HOME in Mineral Point. A Rosary Service will be held at 7:30 pm Friday evening.
