Mineral Point - Clara E. (Markgraf) Kinsman, age 93, of Mineral Point, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 13, 2010, at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born on November 16, 1916, in Lodi, WI, the daughter of Henry and Johanna (Thompson) Markgraf. Clara attended grade school and high school in Lodi, until moving to Mineral Point with her family in 1933, where she graduated from Mineral Point High School in 1934. Clara married John (Jack) Kinsman on November 17, 1945, and the couple moved onto the Kinsman Family Farm in rural Mineral Point, where she lived until the time of her death. Clara was a charter member of Hope Lutheran Church in Mineral Point, and also worked hard over the years at General Telephone Company, Burgess Battery, Cobb Canning Company, and the Mineral Point Care Center. Clara also worked side-by-side with first, her husband, and then, her son, on the family farm. Clara loved to cook, bake, garden, farm, and spend time with, and take care of, her family, friends, and neighbors. She had a wonderful, caring, compassionate personality that will truly be missed by all who knew her.
Clara is survived by her two children, Bill (Terri) Kinsman of Mineral Point and Janet (Wes) Elliott of Rewey; six grandchildren, Ed (Patricia) Kligora of Dodgeville, Kerry (Julie) Kligora of Mineral Point, Shannon (Doug) Wilson of Cobb, Cameron (Michelle Franzen) Elliott of Antioch, CA, Ryan (Naomi Johnson) Elliott of Montfort, and Miranda (Jonathon) Stiebs of Waupaca; seven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; several nieces and nephews, numerous friends, and also, her special friend & caregiver, Betty Norton of Rewey.
Clara is preceded in death by her parents, her brother Herb in 1983, her husband Jack, in 1976, and a granddaughter, Pam Kinsman, in 2006.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 17, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. at HOPE LUTHERAN CHURCH in Mineral Point. Rev. Jim Johnson will officiate. Burial will be held in Graceland Cemetery. Friends may call on Sunday, May 16, 2010 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at GORGEN FUNERAL HOME in Mineral Point and also on Monday from 10am until time of services at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Southwest Health Center Hospice of Platteville or Hope Lutheran Church in Mineral Point.
